In 2012 our Day Camp Theme was Cubs on Safari. We had about 140 boys in attendance along with many wonderfully dedicated parents/adult volunteers. With 7 travling groups comprised of roughly 15-18 boys and leaders they set out each day to enjoy various activities such as cooking, woodworking, archery, BB guns, Games and a special Guest who taught the boys the art of African Drumming.
The boys had "tribal necklaces" that were the crown jewel of camp. They had many opportunities to earn beads to add to their necklace. The took time over the 3 day event to work on memorizing specific details of the Cub Scout program such as the Cub Scout Promise, The Law of the Pack and the Motto. They leanred about the Outdoor Code and Leave no Trace. Along with this exercise the boys also were able to learn the Core Values of Cub Scouting which are: Citizenship, Compassion, Cooperation, Courage, Fatih, Health & Fitness, Honesty, Perserverence, Positive Attitude, Resourcefulness, Respect and Responsibility . While all this may sound a bit boring to a young boy - it wasn't at all! They learned what each of these core values were in a fun and easy manner and then shared with their leaders through out the 3 days, ways they had lived the values at camp - earning them even more beads.
More to come...................
